Call for Papers

Special Issue on “Ergonomics in Latin America: Development and Application”

We are excited to invite submissions to the Special Issue, “Ergonomics in Latin America: Development and Application,” in Ergonomics in Design. This landmark edition, promoted by the Foundation for Professional Ergonomics and the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES), aims to bring together research and insights on the unique challenges and advancements in ergonomics and human factors across the Latin American context. We welcome contributions that explore the development, application, and impact of HF/E principles in Latin America, offering case studies, debates, research papers, and practical demonstrations on how ergonomics is integrated into various sectors and environments.

Topics of Interest

We seek to solicit high-impact papers on the following topics related to ergonomics and human factors in Latin America:

  • Regional Ergonomics Practices and Innovations: Contributions discussing the development and implementation of ergonomics principles within the Latin American context, highlighting local practices, needs and innovations.
  • Challenges and Opportunities in HF/E Application: Case studies and research on the opportunities, challenges, and solutions found in the application of HF/E principles across diverse sectors in Latin America, such as agriculture, construction, education, healthcare, manufacturing, mining, and more.
  • Ergonomics in Diverse Populations and Work Environments: Papers focusing on how ergonomic interventions affect different populations (e.g., indigenous communities, urban, rural and informal workers) and unique work environments in the region.
  • Development of Ergonomics Policies and Standards: Insights into policy development, standardization, and implementation of ergonomic practices across Latin America, including integration into governmental and institutional frameworks.

Schedule

  • Call for Papers released: November 1st, 2024
  • Submissions due: April 1st, 2025
  • Decision Letters sent: July 4th, 2025
  • Revised Manuscripts due: September 5th, 2025
  • Tentative Print publication: January 2026

Submission Guidelines

  • Feature articles should be between 1,500 and 3,000 words.
  • Short articles should be between 1,000 and 1,500 words.
  • Commentaries on the topic should be limited to 500 words.

Authors should prepare their manuscripts according to the Ergonomics in Design journal guidelines. For detailed publication policies, sample articles, and submission instructions, please visit the EID submission site: Ergonomics in Design Author Instructions.

Ergonomics in Design is indexed in prominent abstracting and indexing databases, ensuring its visibility and accessibility within the academic and professional communities.

Articles must be submitted in English. Once accepted after the review process, authors have the option to submit a supplemental Spanish language version.

The Foundation for Professional Ergonomics was established in 2004 as a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing professionalism in ergonomics through educational activities and awards.  Our goals support the goals of BCPE, and we work closely with the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) on various ergonomics practitioner initiatives.  FPE attained an IRS 501(c)(3) status enabling tax-deductible donations from those sharing this dedication to professionalism in ergonomics.
